Stand Up to Racism, Sexism and Xenophobia in the Incoming Administration!

November 22, 2016

The president-elect has named appointments for important positions in his incoming administration that have long records of racism, sexism and misogyny, xenophobia and Islamaphobia. He has appointed Stephen K. Bannon as his senior adviser. Bannon ran the website Breitbart News for years prior to becoming candidate Trump's campaign CEO this summer. Breitbart News is infamous for its racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, Islamaphobia and misogyny. Bannon himself bragged to reporters that he made the website the "platform for the alt-right." The "alt-right" is a rebranding of white supremacists; they held a convention in Washington, D.C., last weekend, celebrating the electoral college victory of Trump, during which leaders of the "movement" used the "sieg heil" Nazi salute while pronouncing the greatness of the white race and the inutility of other races. (Trigger warning: Watch the video at the end of this page.)

His appointment for national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, called Islam a "a vicious cancer inside the body of 1.7 billion people on this planet and it has to be excised" this August. He is known to peddle in conspiracy theories and has ties to so-called "alt-right" white supremacists.

Trump's pick for attorney general, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, was considered too racist to be confirmed as a federal judge by a Republican-dominated 30 years ago. And in the years since that failure to be confirmed, he has maintained an abysmal record on civil rights. As Alabama's attorney general for two years, he aggressively fought to preserve inequitable funding of poor schools, a persistent holdover of the state's shameful history of segregation.

We need to hold our legislators accountable for standing up to these racist appointments, which could have disastrous effects on our communities, our country and indeed the world.

Call these Republican House and Senate members and tell them to demand Trump rescind these appointments at once:

Sen Jeff Flake 202-224-4521
Sen John McCain 202-224-2235
Sen Ben Sasse 202-224-4224
Sen Mike Lee 202-224-5444
Sen Tim Scott 202-224-6121
Sen Lindsey Graham 202-224-5972
Sen Orrin Hatch 202-224-5251
Sen Marco Rubio 202-224-3041
Rep. Mia Love (202) 225-3011
Rep Charlie Dent 202-225-6411
Rep Bob Dold 202-225-4835
Rep Adam Kinzinger 202-225-3635

Also call your own senators and congresspeople and tell them politely that you expect them to take a fierce stance against racist appointments who will make our country and the world less safe! Find your U.S. senators and congresspeople here.
