HIV and Patient Groups Join to Say "I Am (Still) Essential" to ACA Leaders

July 16, 2014

To address the Affordable Care Act (ACA) implementation concerns of people living with chronic conditions, including HIV, patient groups across the country have come together to form the "I Am (Still) Essential" campaign. As a call to action, the campaign is asking organizations to sign on to a letter for Health and Human Services Secretary, Sylvia Matthews Burwell, asking her to examine several key issues.

The letter asks Secretary Burwell to enforce the ACA non-discrimination provisions, prohibit restrictive formularies and inadequate provider networks; address high cost-sharing, including inappropriate use of coinsurance; and improve plan transparency so that consumers can make informed decisions.

The deadline for signatures is Thursday, July 24, 2014.
