Caribbean 360 reported that Barbados recently launched a Virtual HIV Research Unit (VHRU) accessible to researchers, students, nongovernmental organizations, and others through the www.hivgateway.com portal. VHRU comprises 5,000 scientific publications and reports on HIV in Barbados and the Caribbean. According to Social Care Minister Steve Blackett, the portal will complement the HIV Explained mobile application, another National HIV/AIDS Commission (NHAC) initiative, which is available for free download on both Android and Apple platforms. Blackett also said that the VHRU launch coincided with the beginning of Barbados's five-year Strategic Plan for HIV, which calls for zero new infections, discrimination, and AIDS-related deaths by 2018. NHAC created VHRU with financial assistance from the World Bank.
