Pop Superstar Rihanna Joins MAC AIDS Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS

By Mathew Rodriguez

February 17, 2014

Rihanna is known around the world for being the best-selling music artist of the digital age, for her fashion sense and for her devil-may-care attitude. Except, now, it seems she does care about at least one issue: HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Through her new philanthropic partnership with MAC AIDS Fund, which puts artists, musicians and other public figures in collaboration with on-the-ground workers fighting HIV/AIDS throughout the world, Rihanna has released a lipstick and a lipglass for purchase. The full amount from all sales goes toward MAC's HIV/AIDS support efforts abroad. Rihanna recently appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the new endeavor.

MAC AIDS Fund has a long history of working with music superstars to raise money for HIV/AIDS. Last year, Ricky Martin and rap diva Nicki Minaj were spokespeople, and Minaj's lipstick became the best-selling item in the history of the brand. Previous black celebrity spokeswomen include Eve, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott and Lil' Kim.
