10 Ways You Can Celebrate World AIDS Day
Time to take action! Learn more about drug therapies, about safe sex, volunteering
for an AIDS organization, etc. Use the links below to get to know our site. Light a
candle, take mouse in hand, and jump in!
1. Practice safe sex tonight (and every night)! Get specific with The Body's
Questions and Answers about Safe Sex. If you're confused about the new oral sex guidelines, check out Mark Schoofs' "The Great
Fellatio Debate" from The Village Voice.
2. Education is our most powerful weapon! Curl up with mega-informative
newsletters from Treatment Action Group, AIDS Treatment News, Women Alive,
Seattle Treatment Education Project, Gay Men's Health Crisis, or
publications from any of the more than thirty organizations that flow
materials to The Body.
3. If you know someone on a drug treatment regimen for AIDS/HIV, or someone
thinking about taking certain drugs, find out about these medications --
reverse transcriptase inhibitors, protease inhibitors, and triple
combinations. If you don't find the answer to your question, ask one of our HIV specialists, at The Body's Ask the Experts.
4. Read stories of people with AIDS. At The Body these include stories told in
The Loel Poor Exhibits (see above) and in poetry by children with AIDS. Or
-- tell us your own story.
5. Find out what political actions you can take to make politicians hear
your voice in the fight against AIDS.
6. Commemorate a friend or family member at The Body's AIDS Memorial.
7. Help a friend with AIDS understand the legal and financial issues
involved in the illness. Or study up on them yourself.
8. Learn about organizations you can donate to or volunteer with, at The Body's
Helping and Getting Help page.
9. Help a friend with AIDS learn to eat more healthfully, at The Body's diet
and nutrition page.
10. Above all -- don't give up hope! Find out why The Body's own Michael Shernoff, MSW has more hope than ever, or ask him any questions you may have about
