Susquehanna Township, Pa., Woman Arrested for Assault After Lying About HIV Status, Police Say

January 6, 2014

This article was reported by

PennLive recently reported that state police charged a woman from Harrisburg, Pa., with aggravated assault and additional crimes after their investigation into allegations showed that she had lied to a 25-year-old man in June 2013 about her HIV status. The woman was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, sexual assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment and released on $25,000 bail pending further settlement of the charges. For several years, Pennsylvania has used its general criminal statutes to charge individuals who know they are infected with HIV/AIDS or other STDs and engage in sexual activity without disclosing their status.
