A recent Holland Sentinel News article highlighted an October 9 report from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS that stated that global HIV infections have dropped by 30 percent since 2001. Statistics additionally demonstrated a 30-percent decrease in AIDS-related deaths since 2001. Report authors speculate the decline in infections and fatalities are due to an increased knowledge about the virus and available treatment options along with increased access to antiretroviral drugs.
