Safe Is Sexy: How Female Condoms Can Double Your Pleasure

Sept. 16 marks the second annual Global Female Condom Day, and female condom advocates are seizing the opportunity to highlight this innovative -- yet underused -- safer sex tool. We (I and my coalition colleagues) love female condoms, or FCs, because they provide protection and pleasure for all genders!

We recognize that sex is a health positive aspect of human interaction, and we desire pleasure as much as we need protection. The female condom, also known as an internal condom, can enhance the intimate interaction between couples. Female condoms are inserted into the vagina or anus before sex, and allow a receptive partner to wear the condom.

Though there are other brands internationally, the only female condom available for purchase in the U.S. is the FC2, and it is made not only for protection, but for pleasure. The FC2 condoms feel more natural because they are pre-lubricated and made of a material called nitrile that quickly heats up to body temperature. The inner and outer rings of the FC2 can provide pleasurable friction for both partners. Because female condoms don't rely on an erect penis, they can be inserted before things heat up, and taken out after you've had time to cuddle. Or, you can use female condom insertion as part of your sexual play. When both partners feel protected, the sex is hotter!

So, how can you get your hands on this sexy option?

The Female Health Company, maker of the FC2 Female Condom, has started a new text finder program in the seven cities where female condom educational campaigns exist: Chicago, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Houston, and Atlanta. If you live in one of these cities, simply text "findFC2" to 877877. You'll be prompted to type in your location, and you'll receive locations where female condoms are available, along with messages on how you can be safe and sexy using female condoms!

Don't live in a pilot program city? Check with your local health department, Planned Parenthood, reproductive justice or AIDS service organization. They are also available online at www.walgreens.com and www.totalaccessgroup.com. You can also contact the National Female Condom Coalition for other resources and information about female condoms in the U.S. and internationally.

The momentum for female condoms is growing. Join people all over the country by trying a female condom today and see if you enjoy this safe and sexy option!
