California: Cyclists Pedal Through Santa Maria for AIDS/LifeCycle Ride

On June 6, participants cycled through Santa Maria, Calif., as part of the AIDS/LifeCycle seven-day, 545-mile bicycle ride that runs from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS services. An estimated 2,750 cyclists and roadies are participating in the event, which will close with a "Finish Line Festival" and ceremony in Los Angeles on June 8. Each rider was expected to raise a minimum of $3,000 to participate in the event; organizers hoped to raise an estimated $14.2 million that would benefit the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center.
