Texas: HIV/AIDS Cases on the Rise in Travis County

According to AIDS Services of Austin Executive Director Paul Scott, Travis County, Texas, reported 242 HIV diagnoses and 124 AIDS diagnoses in 2011. Currently, Travis County has 3,763 residents with HIV/AIDS; Texas reported more than 69,000 cases in 2011. Between 2005 and 2011, the number of HIV cases reported in the state rose 34 percent. Scott said that the expectation for 2012 is for yet another significant increase. AIDS Services of Austin provides free HIV testing. For further information, visit http://www.asaustin.org.
