The Philippines: HIV, AIDS Cases Breach 1,000 in Q1

On May 1, the Philippines Department of Health said that the 370 new cases of HIV or AIDS reported in March had brought the country's tally of cases recorded in the first quarter of 2013 to 1,089. The March 2013 report indicated that 85 percent of the new cases involved male-to-male sex, and 55 percent were within the 2029 age group. The 2013 statistics represent an increase over 2012, which saw an average of 8 HIV cases per day compared with 12 cases of HIV reported daily for 2013.
