According to Dr. Vivian Hope of Public Health England, the injection of image-and performance-enhancing drugs is rising in England and Wales, and his research indicates that this use of injection may also be a route for men to acquire blood-borne viruses. In addition to injecting, the men's reported sexual behavior could be linked to viral infections. Even though the men practiced some risky behaviors, their use of health services was limited. Hope advised providers of HIV testing and HIV treatment services of the need to be aware of this behavior, even when clients may not readily disclose it.
