AIDS Top Source of Death From Infectious Disease in China in 2012

According to a report released last month by the official Xinhua news agency that draws from official Chinese Ministry of Health statistics, AIDS cases topped the list for cause of death by infectious disease in the country in 2012, with 11,575 cases. TB was the second most frequent, with 2,662 cases. Viral hepatitis also was among the top six, coming in at fourth highest with 747 cases. The news agency also reported that overall, infectious diseases caused 17,315 fatalities in China during 2012, an increase from 15,802 in 2011.
