On February 1, during a ceremony held at the U.S. Embassy in Nassau, U.S. Chargé d'Affaires John Dinkelman announced the five recipients for the 2012 President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Small Grants Program. The program is a part of the Caribbean Regional Partnership Framework against HIV/AIDS, and concentrates on prevention activities to end HIV/AIDS across communities in the Bahamas. Since 2009, the U.S. Embassy has provided more than $104,000 in PEPFAR funding to support HIV/AIDS-related community-based projects on New Providence, Grand Bahama, and the Family Islands. The five groups selected for 2012 grants received a total of more than $18,000 to assist with their initiatives to combat HIV/AIDS. The U.S. Embassy in Nassau will announce a new call for PEPFAR HIV/AIDS Small Grants proposals during the summer of 2013.
