"Big Push" Campaign Revived at World Economic Summit

"Last September the Huffington Post, together with the Global Fund [to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria], launched 'The Big Push' campaign, seeking to build on the great progress that has been made in recent years fighting AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria," Arianna Huffington notes in the Huffington Post's "The Big Push" blog. "[I]n order to keep the spotlight on what is possible -- and to coincide with the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos this week -- HuffPost's front page will be featuring photos of those who have joined the Big Push to defeat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria -- from leaders in politics, business and the arts to our own readers," she writes, adding, "You can join them and submit your own photo here" (1/23).

A Global Fund press release notes, "On Tuesday, 22 January, Charlize Theron posed for her Big Push portrait, in aid of the Global Fund's efforts to rally support for a Big Push to achieve global health goals which have long seemed impossible but which are now, for the first time, within reach" (1/23). In a commentary posted on the Global Fund's blog on Tuesday, Theron, who founded the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, writes, "History will judge us by how we choose to confront this watershed moment. It will be up to donors to commit the political will and financial resources needed, even in these times of economic austerity. And it is up to us to push for these commitments" (1/22).
