Treating Pneumonia in the ImmunocompromisedJanuary/February 2013 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports on updated recommendations for the use of pneumonia vaccination in people who are immunocompromised, including people with HIV, in its October 12, 2012 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). The report discusses the June recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). According to the report, "Streptococcus pneumonia remains a leading cause of serious illness among adults in the U.S., including bacteremia, meningitis, and pneumonia.
