US$49 Million for HIV/AIDS Activities in Sierra Leone

January 2, 2013

Director of the National AIDS Secretariat Dr. Brima Kargbo announced that the Global Fund has contributed $49 million in support of HIV/AIDS activities in Sierra Leone. Kargbo disclosed this news on December 28 during the opening of a three-day workshop in Freetown, noting that the donation will support the second phase of the Global Fund Round Nine HIV/AIDS Project. Kargbo also stated that the Global Fund will cut the number of its partners from 52 to 20. These partners will receive fixed-cost resources, but procurement funds will go directly to providers.
