Liver Disease More Likely for People Living With HIV, New Infographic Highlights

Recently, aidsmap.com released an eye-opening infographic about HIV and liver disease, which is the second leading cause of death for people living with HIV.

Among the startling statistics were:

• About 30 percent of people living with HIV in the U.S. are coinfected with hepatitis C.
• About 10 percent of people living with HIV worldwide are chronically infected with hepatitis B.
• Liver dysfunction among people living with HIV is about six-and-a-half times higher than that of the general population.
• Rates of heavy drinking among people living with HIV are almost two times higher than in the general population.

To help prevent liver disease, be sure to exercise, eat healthy and limit the amount of alcohol you drink.
