January 23, 2012
Our "Ask the Experts" forums received another year's worth of HIV transmission questions in 2012, many of which reminded us how much HIV education is still needed. Here are 10 posts we feel are the "best of the worst" of 2012. They're some of the oddest, most farfetched questions we've seen people ask about HIV this year. Some are shocking, some are sad, most are funny.
Hundreds of you voted on which of the 10 finalists represented the most bizarre post from our "Ask the Experts" forums during the past year. Each post was rated from 1 (not strange) to 5 (extremely strange). We then tallied up the votes and calculated their average ratings.
HIV From Drinking Three-Day-Old Semen in a Frozen Condom?
(Average Rating: 4.38)
Can you contract HIV or another STD from drinking cum from a condom that is three days old? What if it was frozen?
Here's how the nine other finalists shook out:
Smoothie With a Boost of HIV?
(Average Rating: 4.37)
I recently went to the mall and was given a free smoothie sample from a man working at a small snack kiosk. He gave me a strange feeling, kept smiling at me and waiting for my reaction, and asked, "Did you like it?" after I had finished. I immediately feared that he was HIV positive, had ejaculated into the smoothie, and handed it to me. The main reason I fear that I contracted HIV this way is because I was getting sick at that time and had a very sore throat. I also constantly bite my cheeks. I know it is unlikely, but can you please let me know if contracting HIV this way would be a possibility?
Multipurpose Toilet Paper Holder
(Average Rating: 4.35)
Can I get HIV from shoving a hotel toilet paper holder up my butt? I have been feeling sick afterwards.
Sex With Vaseline in a Sandwich Bag
(Average Rating: 4.05)
Recently, I discovered that I could simulate sex with Vaseline in a sandwich bag and two pillows. I thought of it to be safer than real sex, but tonight I noticed some red sores on my penis. Is it possible I contracted something?
My Dog's Menstrual Chew Toy: What's the Risk?
(Average Rating: 3.78)
Yesterday, my dog was chewing on a used tampon she got out of a stranger's trash can. She licked me on the face and lips before I knew what she had done. She might have licked me in the mouth! Am I at risk for HIV from that tampon? I am so worried!
Assault With a Deadly Turd?
(Average Rating: 3.69)
A kid on the street threw a very small amount of feces at me. It knocked the side of my head. I wasn't able to wash up right away, and only showered when I got home five hours later. If the feces contained blood, am I at risk of HIV? Is the risk higher if the feces were fresh? I know it all sounds gruesome, but I have to ask to put my silly mind at peace. Do I need PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis)?
HIV From Nipple-on-Nipple Action?
(Average Rating: 3.55)
A sex worker and I were naked together. She started rubbing her nipples on my nipples, along with her whole body. It was quiet rigorous. Can her nipple fluid come out and enter through my nipple to give me HIV?
Wearing and Sniffing Other People's Dirty Panties: What's the Risk?
(Average Rating: 3.46)
Someone put his semen in my yogurt, and I know that person has sexually transmitted diseases. Can HIV be transmitted this way?
Does Constant Masturbation Affect CD4 Count?
(Average Rating: 3.37)
If an HIV-positive person masturbates constantly, will their CD4 count drop? Will they recover those CD4 cells after a few days, once the marathon of masturbation has stopped, or will their CD4 count remain unstable?
HIV Foam Party?
(Average Rating: 3.08)
I went to a foam party at a club a while back. I wore a dress, but no panties. Dumb, I know. I'm worried that I could have contracted HIV from the foam or water. I've worried myself sick about it. Can I get infected from foam?
