New York -- The Latino Commission on AIDS mourns the passing of its supporter and friend, singer Jenny Rivera, a tireless advocate for Latino/Hispanic health and social issues. Through her music and work, she brought light to the many challenges faced by the Latino/Hispanic community and she will be dearly remembered for her constant support of different initiatives aimed to promote HIV testing and health services. In 2005, Jenny Rivera "La Diva de la Banda" received the Ilka Tanya Payan Award at Cielo Latino, the Commission's Gala Benefit, for her steadfast support of HIV and AIDS awareness and education. "Our prayers and condolences go to the family, friends and fans of Jenny Rivera. As we at the Latino Commission on AIDS mourn her passing, we also remember her gratefully for her selfless and tireless support of so many important causes, as well as for her wonderful music and personality. She used her talent to make a difference in the health and well-being of so many in our country and around the world," stated Guillermo Chacon, president of the Latino Commission on AIDS.
