International News Ireland: HIV/AIDS Stigma Persists, Says Dublin AIDS AllianceDecember 10, 2012 The late diagnosis of HIV/AIDS continues to be a "serious problem" in Ireland, despite progress in medical treatment for HIV-infected persons. Persons who are diagnosed late do not respond as well to treatment as those whose status is determined early in the infection. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre reported 248 cases of HIV thus far in 2012, which represents a 3 percent increase over last year. Visit the CDC's website to find out more about their activities, publications and services.

Mon., Mar. 4, 2013 at 1:13 pm EST as a gay hiv positive man in ireland i have to agree that stigma is the greatest cause of new infections in ireland, people are afraid to get tested because of the effect on their lives.I personaly know a number of people who are positive for a number of years and have never told anyone not even family members, what effect this has on their mental health can only be guessed.
