AVAC's PxROAR program offers training for advocates in biomedical HIV prevention research education and advocacy through mentorship, peer support, networking opportunities, and technical and financial support. Originally centered in the US, the program was expanded in April 2012 to include a European pilot project with advocates from Germany, Spain and the UK to highlight biomedical prevention issues particular to their communities, countries and the continent as a whole.

Meet the Members of PxROAR US and PxROAR Europe

The PxROAR program has two goals: to educate its members in HIV prevention research science, implementation and advocacy; and to provide a platform for specific prevention research advocacy campaigns. There are two cadres of PxROAR advocates: one based in the US and one based in Europe. Both groups represent the range of HIV-affected communities.

In Europe and the US, the PxROAR program seeks to to expand members' capacity to engage in HIV prevention research science, implementation and advocacy; to contribute to advocacy for research, development and implementation of new HIV preventions, including AIDS vaccines, microbicides, PrEP, treatment as prevention and medical male circumcision; to track FDA and EMA licensing processes; and advocate for sustained funding to key research entities including the US National Institutes of Health and European-based research institutes funded through the EU's Financial Framework 2014-2020 and Horizon 2020.

The expansion of the program is made possible in part by a Be the Generation Bridge Partnership grant from FHI 360 with funds from the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

For more information on the PxROAR program or how to get involved, please email pxroar@avac.org.

In addition, members of PxROAR frequently attend conferences and community meetings. Below are photos from recent events.
