California: World AIDS Day Talk Will Focus on Latest Statistics in Ventura County

On Thursday, November 29, in honor of World AIDS Day, Craig Webb, HIV/AIDS program administrator for Ventura County Public Health, will present a talk at California Lutheran University (CLU). He will speak about the latest HIV/AIDS statistics in Ventura County, where estimates show that more than 2,000 people have been diagnosed with HIV. Webb reports that as of December 31, 2011, the county was tracking 322 cases of HIV -- 317 living and five deceased -- according to the California Department of Public Health. Webb declares that even though HIV drugs extend the lives of many people, there is still no cure. On November 29, HIV-infected people will talk from 2:15 p.m. to 3:55 p.m., followed by Webb's talk at 4:10 p.m. Representatives from Ventura County Public Health, Planned Parenthood, CLU's wellness programs, and other organizations will be present to provide information. The event is free and is sponsored by CLU's Center for Equality and Justice, wellness programs, and campus ministries, and the HIV/AIDS Coalition of Ventura County. The event will take place at CLU, (located at 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) in the Swenson Center at Faculty Street and Pioneer Avenue, Rooms 101 and 102.
