Mother of Ryan White Visits South Carolina Lowcountry

August 24, 2012

Jeanne White Ginder, for whose late son the federal Ryan White AIDS program is named, is scheduled to visit South Carolina's Lowcountry on Friday. Ginder's visit to Charleston is sponsored by Roper-St. Francis Health Care, which recently opened the Wellness Center, an expanded clinic that treats HIV patients, but is not identified as such. After White was diagnosed with AIDS at age 13, he and Ginder waged a campaign against AIDS stigma and discrimination. He died in 1990 at age 18, shortly before Congress passed the law named after him. [PNU editor's note: To learn more about the Wellness Center, visit]
