U.S. News Report: Police Seizing Condoms From Sex WorkersJuly 19, 2012 Human Rights Watch says some big-city police forces are putting sex workers at risk by confiscating their condoms and using them as evidence to support prostitution charges. The group called a news conference for Thursday to discuss a new report on the problem, which focuses on police departments in Washington, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. HRW says District of Columbia Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham reacted to the report by saying that while he is concerned that the practice could discourage sex workers from carrying condoms, the contraceptives can serve as supplemental evidence in investigations of prostitution.
