All Hands on Deck for The AIDS Memorial Quilt on the National MallJuly 12, 2012 Measuring in at 50 miles and 54 tons, The AIDS Memorial Quilt will be displayed on The National Mall and in more than 50 other locations throughout Washington, D.C. to accommodate all 48,000 panels for the public to see. The NAMES Project Foundation is calling for volunteers to help prepare the Mall grounds and Quilt panels for opening day of Quilt in the Capital. Volunteers are needed on July 19-20 for two shifts: 9 am to 1 pm with lunch provided and 1 to 6 pm with refreshments provided. To sign up: http://quilt2012.org/volunteermain. An astonishing 35,200 panels -- 8,800 different panels per day -- will be on display from 8th to 14th Streets alone, July 21-25, 2012.
