U.S. News New Hampshire: Aldermen Accept Federal, State Grants for AIDS Housing and HIV/STD ServicesJuly 3, 2012 The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Nashua a $1.43 million Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS grant. The money, part of a three-year funding cycle, will go to the Southern New Hampshire HIV/AIDS Task Force under its Harbor Homes program; the city will receive a portion to cover administrative costs. The Public Health & Community Services department is in charge of distributing the funds; the grant will provide housing assistance to 30 AIDS-affected households, said Lori Wilshire, alderman-at-large. Nashua's aldermen also accepted a $149,000 grant from the state's Health & Human Services Department for STD and HIV control. That money will be used to provide testing and treatment services for residents, and it will help support clinic operations and an outreach van.
