International News Global Fund Resumes Aid to Zambia With $100 Million GrantJune 28, 2012 Two years after aid was suspended due to a corruption probe, Zambia has received renewed support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. "After a dry spell of funding ... owing to concerns on management of some HIV/AIDS programs, Zambia has successfully secured a $100 million grant from the fund," Health Minister Joseph Kasonde announced on June 21. The three-year grant will be used to help fight HIV, which infects 14 percent of Zambia's adults. The investigation, a response to $5 million that went missing from the health ministry, resulted in the firing of several employees and the prosecution of a human resources manager.
