International News France: Cannes AIDS Gala Raises Record Nine Million EurosMay 29, 2012 Some 980 people turned out for a Thursday night gala in Antibes that raised a record-breaking €9 million (US $11 million) for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). Celebrities in attendance included Zac Efron, Kylie Minougue, Janet Jackson, Alec Baldwin, Antonio Banderas, Paris Hilton, and Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. Held on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, the event was first staged in 1993 and since then has raised some €64 million (US $80 million) for HIV prevention, research, treatment, and advocacy.
