President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS Meets

The Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) held its 46th Full Council Meeting on Wednesday and Thursday May 16-17, 2012 in Washington, D.C. Speakers included Dr. Grant Colfax, Director of The White House Office of National AIDS Policy, and Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary of Health, US Department of Health and Human Services. In addition, PACHA accepted public comments from the community. AIDS United Director of Political Affairs William McColl took this opportunity to call for the lifting of the ban on the use of federal funding for syringe exchange programs submitted on behalf of 91 signed-on community organizations. In response, PACHA members voted to send a letter to the President, encouraging the Administration to make federal funding for syringe exchange programs a top priority in future negotiations.
