30 for 30 Campaign Commends Passage of Presidential Resolution on Women

New York, N.Y. -- The 30 for 30 Campaign joins national and local partners across the country in commending the Presidential Advisory Council on AIDS (PACHA) for its historic accomplishment in passing a resolution on women.

Earlier today the PACHA passed a resolution addressing the critical role and unique needs of women living with and affected by HIV. The resolution, initiated and carried though by 30 for 30 Campaign advocates and allies, acknowledges the devastating and severe impact of HIV on women and their communities, and calls for the implementation of strategies for addressing related health care disparities.

Among its various provisions, the resolution recommends that the U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy Implementation Plan be updated to include specific provisions, goals, and metrics to measure progress for women living with and affected by HIV. Through the Resolution, PACHA calls on the Secretary of Health and Human Services to request all relevant federal agencies, the newly created White House Working Group on the Intersection of HIV/AIDS, Violence Against Women and Girls and Gender-Related Health Disparities, along with the White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) and the HHS Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy to update the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and its implementation plan accordingly.

The 30 for 30 Campaign's advocacy continues with our recent Congressional Briefing on Women, HIV, Violence and Gender Related Health Disparities; the soon to be released white paper on Women, HIV and the Affordable Care Act produced in partnership with Harvard' Treatment Access Expansion Project (TAEP); and 30 for 30 related activities at the upcoming International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC.

The 30 for 30 Campaign is a coordinating body of HIV and reproductive health organizations from every region of the country working to ensure that the unique needs of women, including transgender women, with regard to HIV prevention, care and treatment are addressed in all relevant funding, programs and policies. We are especially committed to alleviating HIV-related health disparities for women of color who currently make up more than 80% of HIV cases among women in the United States.
