U.S. News Illinois: Community Health Event for Families Focuses on HIVMay 17, 2012 "Know Your Status -- Standing Together Against HIV/AIDS" is the theme of a community health event on Saturday, May 19, at Chicago Hope Academy, 2130 W. Ogden Ave. "We encourage family members to come together, as we want to reach out to entire families," said Mireya Trejo of Emmaus Ministries, which is hosting the event with New Life Community Tri-Taylor. "We figure if we can get families and a community to talk about HIV/AIDS, we can encourage people to be tested." In addition to confidential HIV testing and other health screenings, the fair will feature participation by a number of local service providers. The Tri-Taylor event is the first of several planned for various Chicago neighborhoods. For more information, telephone 773-334-6063 or e-mail knowyourstatus@streets.org.
