Georgia: May Is Hepatitis Awareness Month

May 15, 2012

The Institute of Medicine recently reported that almost 5.3 million Americans have chronic hepatitis B or C infection, and most do not know it. CDC's "Know More Hepatitis" campaign, announced in 2011, seeks to encourage more Americans to undergo hepatitis testing. For more information, south Georgia residents should contact their local health department or the South Health District's Infectious Disease program at 229-245-8711. Also, CDC offers an online assessment tool to help individuals determine their own risk factors for viral hepatitis; visit www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/RiskAssessment/.
