Mississippi: Hattiesburg School Board Adopts Sex Ed Policy
May 11, 2012
In a Thursday night vote, the Hattiesburg Public School District Board of Trustees adopted an abstinence-only sex education policy for sixth through eighth grades and an abstinence-plus approach for ninth through 12th grades. According to a report in the Hattiesburg American, President Marcus Cathey said the board's choice of the expanded curriculum for high-school students was a response to input from parents and the community. A 2011 state law requires that school boards adopt either an abstinence-only or abstinence-plus policy by June 30.
