Phill Wilson AIDS 2012 Plenary: "The US Epidemic"

AIDS 2012 - XIX International AIDS Conference July 22 - 27, Washington, DC, USA - Turning the Tide Together.

In January the International AIDS Society announced that Black AIDS Institute CEO Phill Wilson had been selected to give a plenary address at AIDS 2012 on the US epidemic. As the US hosts the conference for the first time in 22 years, this plenary will play an important role in shaping the domestic HIV/AIDS message for the conference. Phill and the Black AIDS Institute see this as a great honor and a great responsibility. With more than one million Americans living with HIV or AIDS, and one of the most complex and enduring epidemics in the world, there is a lot that can and should be said. This is where you come in!

The Black AIDS Institute, in partnership with the Harm Reduction Coalition, invite drug users, sex workers, and their allies to participate in a special national conference call to voice your priorities and concerns for this plenary address, this Thursday May 3, at 3:30pm Eastern. Phill Wilson will be on the line to hear directly from you. To register for the call, please CLICK HERE.
* Although a web address will be given upon registration, this will only be a conference call, without a web component.

If you are unable to join the call on May 3, there are other options for sharing your input. We will also host a number of other targeted constituency calls over the coming weeks -- stay tuned for details. Also, written feedback can be submitted via online survey until May 18. Callers will be asked to frame their comments within one of the following questions:

  1. Phill has about 20 minutes for his plenary address. Given the short time, what about the epidemic among drug users and/or sex workers do you think he must cover?
  2. What does the world need to know about drug users, sex workers, and HIV in the US?
  3. What is the single most important challenge facing drug users' and/or sex workers' access to HIV treatment and prevention in the US today?
