New York: Hudson Valley AIDS Walk Celebrates 20 Years

April 13, 2012

Registration for the 20th annual Hudson Valley AIDS Walk is now open, ARCS (AIDS Related Community Services), its organizer, recently announced. The May 5 walk is planned for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Walkway Over the Hudson. Poughkeepsie residents will walk toward Highland at 10:45 and join the group across the river; then all walkers will cross over to Poughkeepsie at 11:30. Free snacks and entertainment will be offered at an after-party at the Brown Derby, 96 Main St. in Poughkeepsie. Last year's walk attracted more than 500 people and collected more than $50,000 to support ARCS' programs. In honor of this year's 20th anniversary walk, all participants are urged to raise at least $20 in donations. "Our goal is to raise $100,000 at this very special AIDS Walk," said Jeff Kraus, ARCS' executive director. "This is a great way for people to tell their neighbors living with HIV, 'We care about you, and we want you to keep on surviving.'"
