China Investigating Hepatitis C Outbreak in South

February 28, 2012

Ministry of Health spokesperson Deng Haihua on Monday said medical experts are being dispatched to the southern province of Guangdong to investigate an outbreak of hepatitis C among more than 200 people. Deng said that mistakes in medical procedures done in the province's Zijin county may be behind the outbreak. Use of contaminated needles has been blamed in previous hepatitis C outbreaks in China. Deng said preventive measures are being strengthened across the province to halt further transmissions.
