The newest vital statistics report from British Columbia shows life expectancy in the province remains the highest in Canada at 81.7 years. Further, the death rate from HIV is at its lowest since 1995, making B.C. the only province to show a consistent decline in the disease. Experts partly credit that fact to the research and treatment efforts of the B.C. Center for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. The leading cause of death in the province is cancer.
