U.S. News Georgia: Open Hand Plans to ExpandFebruary 27, 2012 Atlanta-based Open Hand announced recently it has exceeded a $4.2 million capital expansion campaign goal, allowing the agency to nearly double its capacity to deliver meals. The nonprofit serves low-income senior citizens, and people with HIV/AIDS, chronic or terminal diseases. Since 2005, demand has grown about 12 percent annually, up to its current volume of about 5,000 meals a day. Open Hand plans to expand at its current site on 176 Ottley Dr. NE, moving to a building next door to the administrative offices and storage and packaging operations. The campaign, which also includes building state-of-the-art facilities, is being funded through individuals, corporations and foundations. Atlanta Journal-Constitution 02.18.2012; Shelia M.
