A member of the Italian Journal of Anatomy and Embryology editorial board recently stepped down in protest of a paper that was published in the journal's December 2011 issue. The paper claims that there is no link between HIV and AIDS, and was published with only two peer reviews, one from the journal's own editor-in-chief.
According to Nature magazine, Klaudia Brix, a cell biologist at Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany, left "because she felt that it was important for a journal to function within its scientific 'scope.'"
The piece, written under the direction of longtime AIDS denialist Peter Duesberg, questioned the validity of deaths in South Africa due to AIDS and whether AIDS medications actually improved the health of people living with HIV.View Full Article

I know so many people with HIV disease who have seen their health improve so much with ART treatment. For myself, I've noticed a number of benefits which I haven't seen much of in the literature. Before I began treatment, I had chronically swollen tonsils, which have gone down a lot. My allergies were getting worse, and worse and have now all but disappeared and most of all, I now have a lot more energy and mental clarity than before treatment. It's only been three months. There is no doubt in my mind that ART treatment can improve the quality of life for people living with this disease. I know that my personal account is not scientifically relevant, but if anyone is reading this and is unsure if medical treatment really will help, I encourage you to speak with the millions of people who have seen such an improvement since beginning treatment.

As the “HIVforum Group”, a group of people HIV positive and negative associated in the Italian HIVforum.info, we sent a letter to the Provost of the University of Florence, asking for an open dissociation of his Institution from denialist Professor Marco Ruggiero's theories and practices: he is cosigner of this last paper of Duesberg and is a well known denialist in the Rethinking AIDS board (here is the letter in PDF format: http://www.hivforum.info/forum/images/docs/Lettera_al_Rettore_UNIFI_8_febbraio_2012.pdf. Sorry, it’s in Italian …).
A similar letter we sent to many Italian infectious diseases experts, to the scientific board of the “Italian Journal of Anatomy and Embryology”, to activists, politicians, media and institutional agencies (here you’ll find the reactions we are collecting: http://www.hivforum.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=925).
But we are also spreading all around the Web an analogous call in English: http://www.hivforum.info/forum/images/docs/Italian_HIVers_against_Ruggiero's_yoghurt-8_February_2012.pdf.
