"Update Your Status" This Valentine's Day and Encourage More HIV Testing

February 1, 2012

Update Your Status

Did you know that roughly 1 in 5 people infected with HIV in the United States is unaware of his or her infection and may be unknowingly transmitting the virus to others? This Valentine's Day, help stop the spread of HIV by getting tested and/or encouraging your friends to get tested!

Starting on January 31 and running through February 14, DoSomething.org will be launching our Update Your Status campaign, urging young people to sign up and get tested for HIV. Participants can sign up at www.DoSomething.org/status and use the HIV testing locator to find a HIV testing center in their community. Upon completion, participants will have the option to literally update their Facebook status to share with friends the importance of getting tested.

Participate in just 5 easy steps:

  • Sign up to tell us you're committed to helping stop the spread of HIV at www.DoSomething.org/status or by texting "STATUS" to 38383
  • If you don't know your status, get tested.
  • Protect your friends. Enter their phone numbers on the site and we'll send them a message from you to encourage them to get tested.
  • Tell us you got tested and we'll send you sweet Facebook swag!
  • Tell the world to get tested! Update your Facebook status.

Participants who refer at least 5 of their friends will be eligible to win one of four $500 scholarships.

For more information, visit www.DoSomething.org/status or text "STATUS" to 38383.
