Is the Ribbon Enough?
Undetectable? Whaaaat?
March 29, 2013 It is a day that is forever ingrained in your memory, and if you were high or drunk when you received your diagnosis ... you sobered up real quick! Now this is not to say that most folks who are HIV + fall into that category. But if you were caught up in that lifestyle, receiving an HIV diagnosis was not something that you didn't remember the next day. Receiving that diagnosis was enough to blow anybody's mind.
HIV Behind the Walls
March 15, 2013
The Holy Spirit strikes again.
All People's Church and Their Response to HIV
March 5, 2013 I have been raising the 'battle-cry' about the church's response to HIV for so long, and it just makes my heart sing when I read about congregations testing and getting tested. It makes me so happy to know that someone has actually taken the time to look into their communities and recognize an issue that needs to be addressed. It can be gun control, hunger, the children, education, whatever! Just do SOMETHING, besides 'gathering the assembly' and sitting in the pews!
Journeying Through Wilderness
March 1, 2013 I am vewy, vewy tired. The end of the church year is hella busy, with what seems like a month full of church services. The first week in December I went to speak in Minneapolis for a World AIDS event, came back and the season was off and running!
Where Does It Hurt?
March 1, 2013 As a child, whenever you were outside playing and fell off your bike, or fell down as you were running down the block... chances are you ran inside crying, where your mom or dad would say: "What happened?" "Where does it hurt?" Chances are, a little antiseptic a band-aid and a hug (and a little nudge) to get back out there and play is enough to dry your tears and do exactly that: "Get back in the game".
God Is Trying To Tell You Something
January 14, 2013 In moments of quietude, before I head over to the Community Meal, I find myself meditating on God. I find myself wondering what God is gonna say to me this morning, through the many folks who will enter into 'our house' for a meal. I find myself, still basking in last week's Word about the 3 wise men, who entered the house and encountered the Christ child and Mary, bowing before Christ and offering up their gifts. I wonder what gifts the wise ones in the community will offer today, while understanding that just their presence is enough.
"Stop Poppin' That Thang!"
January 7, 2013 Before I take it upstairs, I was having a "Soul Train" moment, and scrolling through my timeline. I have been noticing this past year more that quite a few folks have been put in jail for knowingly not disclosing their HIV to others, and others becoming HIV +.
Stayin' Alive
January 4, 2013 Random thought ... well, not really random. I guess I am just thinking about my life, and the passing 'years', not just last year, but the past "years"; and I wish I could find my psych report. I will before the week is out (if I remember), so that I can find the exact quote that psychiatrist used.
In the Arms of the Angel Are Ribbons
December 2, 2012 Even though World AIDS Day was yesterday, I commemorated it today, during our church service. I should say, WE commemorated it, because that is exactly what happened. Today's gathered assembly commemorated it. Did they ever! Other years my WAD services have fallen short: both of attendees and of support. This year, I was more intentional with publicity, and this year, I did it on a Sunday, and combined it with a healing service.
Got a Ribbon?
November 15, 2012 Here we go again: World AIDS Day 2012, coming right up! Time to dig those ribbons out of your drawers and closets and jewelry boxes! Don't have one? Not to worry, wherever you decide to celebrate WAD, I'm sure they'll have some ribbons. Just make sure you save them this time ... so this time next year, you'll be ready!

Is the Ribbon Enough? ![]() Rev. Andrena Ingram Reverend Andrena Ingram (also known as "Pastor Andrena" or "Pastor Ingram") has become a strong advocate for those living in the margins, as she once was. She is an activist in the HIV/AIDS arena, herself living openly and unabashedly with the HIV virus for over 22+ years. Raised in South Jamaica, New York, Reverend Ingram served seven years of active duty in the U.S. Army. She would later move to the South Bronx, where she attended Transfiguration Lutheran Church with Pastor Heidi Neumark as her pastor and mentor -- empowering her to rise up out of herself and her life challenges, which seemed to her, at the time, insurmountable. Reverend Ingram is a graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, with a Master of Divinity. She has been the pastor of St. Michael's Lutheran Church on Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa., for the past four years. Reverend Ingram can frequently be found speaking about HIV/AIDS, encouraging everyone "to know your status, get tested, and be informed." Silence = Death.
