U.S. News Walgreens HIV Centers of Excellence Pharmacies Now Top 500 Nationwide in Areas Most Impacted by HIV/AIDSJanuary 5, 2012 At the US Conference on AIDS in Chicago in November, Walgreens announced it has certified more than 500 of its pharmacies as HIV Centers of Excellence. The COEs are located in communities identified by CDC as being heavily impacted by HIV/AIDS. The COE locations are fully stocked with HIV medications often not available at retail pharmacies. They also are staffed by druggists who have undergone clinical training through the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, which is recognized for its HIV/AIDS pharmaceutical care education program. The instruction includes cultural and social training related to HIV/AIDS issues as well as annual renewal to keep skills current. In addition, the drug chain said it is expanding its partnership with the national Greater Than AIDS campaign. For more information, visit www.HIV.Walgreens.com or www.greaterthan.org/Walgreens.
