U.S. News Whoopi Goldberg Joins Design Jury for New York City AIDS ParkDecember 15, 2011 Entries in the competition to design the New York City AIDS Memorial Park are being accepted through Jan. 21, and the jury to pick the winner has two new members: actress Whoopi Goldberg and shoe designer Kenneth Cole. The project is planned for a triangular tract across the street from the former St. Vincent's Hospital in Greenwich Village. Organizers said Wednesday that actresses Susan Sarandon and Julianne Moore also have joined the effort as supporters. The park is intended to memorialize the more than 100,000 New Yorkers who have died of AIDS, as well as to honor their caregivers and activists. For more information, visit www.aidsmemorialpark.org.
