International News AIDS Cases on Rise in BangladeshDecember 13, 2011 The national Health Ministry reported on World AIDS Day that the disease is increasing in Bangladesh. The country has logged 445 new HIV cases and 251 new AIDS patients in 2011, up from 343 new HIV and 231 AIDS cases in 2010, and 250 HIV and 143 AIDS cases in 2009. Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque noted that AIDS deaths have risen from 37 in 2010 to 84 so far this year. In all, 2,533 people are living with HIV, while 1,101 have progressed to AIDS.
