International News Canada: Newfoundland Health Officials Urge HIV Testing After Finding 12 New CasesDecember 9, 2011 Twelve new cases of HIV infection have been recorded in Newfoundland and Labrador in the past 2.5 years, according to Eastern Health HIV Coordinator Kim Burt. Though anonymous HIV testing is available through Eastern Health and public health nurses, Burt said 25 percent of those with the virus likely do not know they are infected. She emphasized that numerous treatment options -- including a one-pill, once-daily regimen -- are available for those who test positive.
