CrowdOutAIDS This World AIDS Day!

December 1, 2011

Thursday December 1 is World AIDS Day, a day of action for HIV activists around the world!

In 2010 there were:

  • 34 million people living with HIV
  • 2.7 million people newly infected with HIV
  • 1.8 million AIDS-related deaths

We have seen progress in the AIDS response, but many challenges remain. That's why we call on you to commit to #CrowdOutAIDS in this generation! Here's a how to get involved this World AIDS Day.

Help raise HIV knowledge

Only a minority of young people today have adequate knowledge about HIV. Can you answer five basic questions about how HIV is prevented? Test yourself, and challenge your friends:

Put youth on the map

CrowdOutAIDS is launching a "crowd mapping" application where youth HIV activist and organizations can sign up for future opportunities to collaborate with UNAIDS. Register yourself and/or your organization and share the application with your networks:

  • Twitter: .@UNAIDS is #crowdmapping youth organizations working on HIV. Put yourself on the map & RT #WorldAIDSDay
  • Facebook: I've put myself on the @UNAIDS youth activist map this World AIDS Day. Have you?

Host a CrowdOutAIDS offline Open Forum

Over 180 volunteers have already registered around the world to host an offline Open Forum. This is an opportunity to meet young people in your community, discus key issues, and report back to UNAIDS to inform a new strategy on HIV and young people that truly responds to the realties of young people.

Everything you need to host an offline Open Forum is available here.

  • Twitter: Want to do more than wear a Red Ribbon this #WorldAIDSDay? Sign up to host a #CrowdOutAIDS offline forum
  • Facebook: Want to make sure young people in your community are heard at the UN on AIDS this World AIDS Day. Volunteer to host a @CrowdOutAIDS Open Forum

Thanks again for being part of this amazing project -- and as always, send an email to if you have any questions!

Now let's #CrowdOutAIDS this #WorldAIDSDay!
