One Day Together -- One Mouse Click Away

For our World AIDS Day 2011 section, we wanted to capture the diversity of the AIDS community. So, we reached out to people across the world -- regular contributors and those who have never written for us before -- and asked them to guest blog. These columns are written by people who are living with HIV, have been affected by HIV, or work in the field.

Silently we all sat in our secluded lives, afraid, embarrassed, guilty. Sneaking pills at meals so our friends and family don't notice. Before the time of the Internet and Facebook we would truly be alone in this. I'm not sure how those diagnosed in the '80s made it. Support groups were HUGE back then, I'm sure.

I have been to ONE meeting -- when I was first diagnosed. Since I found TheBody.com and my readers via email and IM, I feel a sense of community. I am not alone with this mentally or emotionally.

Thank you for US. I am not afraid to have HIV. I am not afraid to talk about it. YOU make me stronger, we make each other better. For World AIDS Day I will speak out -- maybe drop by Occupy Seattle and steal the mic for a while to rant about how the government is cutting our funding and we are the 99%.
