California: San Francisco Nonprofit Retail Store Celebrates Making $4 Million in AIDS Donations

November 21, 2011

The San Francisco nonprofit Under One Roof, a retail store that helps fund local HIV/AIDS agencies, celebrated its 20th anniversary Thursday at its 518A Castro St. location. It has raised more than $4 million over the years, and at one point helped support as many as 70 HIV/AIDS groups, said Beth Feingold, its executive director; it now assists 22 groups. "The need is still there," but it has changed, she said. "The rate of new infections (especially among the young and certain ethnic groups) is staggeringly high. There are terrible side effects from the drugs" used to treat HIV/AIDS, she added.
