U.S. News Pennsylvania: 15,000 Turn Out for AIDS Walk PhillyOctober 25, 2011 The 25th annual AIDS Walk Philly on Oct. 16 drew 15,000 participants and raised $350,000 for the AIDS Fund, which supports the work of 30 partner organizations. Among the participants was Raphia Noumbissi of Upper Darby, an HIV caseworker whose group SHAHICA ("Sharing Health and Hope in Cameroon, Africa") raises money to fight the epidemic in her native land. "I always say the difference is that [in Philadelphia], I have to beg my clients to get care, and in Cameroon, people are begging to stay in care," said Noumbissi, who brought about 15 walkers with her. AIDS Fund Executive Director Robb Reichard put the walk in historical context: "When we first started walking, we were walking to help people die with dignity, and now we walk to help people live with dignity."
